Jesse Jones Dies
Jesse Jones was one of A family of six children, five brothers and one sister. he was born in the township of Putnam, New York, October 12 to 1811. His boyhood days were spent working on the farm and in a gristmill with his father. In the spring of 1837 he came to the Township of Springfield, Oakland County, where he resided the remainder of the year with an elder brother. In the spring of 1838 he located on section 12 Township of Groveland, where he continued to reside until the time of his demise., A period of 54 years. This section of the country at their time was almost an unbroken wilderness he passed through the trails incident To pioneer life. For five years after his settlement and Groveland he had no one to share his joys and sorrows. He was married to Charlotte Northrop, eldest daughter of William Northrop, May 7th 1843 , From which union they were born to them three children, one son and two daughters, the younger daughter dying at the age of three years and eight months. The son Alexander, and the daughter Eliza, Wife of W. B. Thompson survive him. September 7th 1881, the partner of his life passed on to the beyond, since which time he has lived with his children, who were continually with him through his last sickness to administer his wants and to soothe his pathway down the Dark Valley. He was 81 years, two months and 14 days old at the time of his death. Many have shared his beloved and hospitality, by whom he has been known And familiarly called by the name of uncle Jesse Jones. He was a kind husband and indulgent father And loved and respected by all who knew him. There is one thing worthy of note in regard to this family; for several years three generations lived under the same roof, and previous to his death there were four generations consisting of father, son, grandson, and great grandson. His model life is worthy of imitation by those who are left behind, and he will long be remembered for as many kindnesses and virtues.
