Fire In Pontiac
Our city seems to have received the careful ill will of what "good garrant but terrible master." fire, this season. About 10 o'clock this Friday morning, Lord's Hotel was discovered to be on fire, and in eleven minutes from the time the steam fire engine left the engine house, it was throwing water upon the flames. The fire originated from the burnout of the chimney, and when discovered was making rapid progress between the plaster and the siding but its exact location it was first difficult to ascertain, through the dense smoke which filled the house. The "Steamer" however soon drowned out all indications of fire, though not until the devastating element had taken a peep at the crowd in the street, through the siding. We should judge there was more damage done by the water than the fire, though we are unable at this writing to learn the amount of loss.
