Case of William Turoe
In the case of William Turoe, there was considerable of the comical and some of the pathetic. Turoe is a farmer from Oakland County, and occasionally gets drunk. Yesterday, he came to the city in good order, sold his produce and yielded to his appetite. He went into a saloon opposite the Milwaukee Depot, called for a drink, and when he open his pocket-book to pay for it, two men snatched it and ran off. It contained $48. Policeman Sam Webb arrested John Sullivan, a saloon keeper and Lewis Pratt, as the guilty parties. Unfortunately, Turoe was too drunk to identify the men positively, and he cried like a child at his loss.
