A Close Call

Last Sunday Robert Beardslee and ife spent the day at Waterford and upon their return between five and six o'clock on entering their house they discovered it to be filled with smoke. After opening the doors and allowing the smoke to escape sufficiently for them to look around, the discovered the floor near the sitting room stove to be on fire. It had destroyed three breadths of carpet and burned about four feet square of the floor and also burning three inches off the top of the joist. If they had returned ten minutes later, the house would have been a complete loss together with the contents.
