Fatal G. T. Wreck

The dead: Brakeman Clarke Hughes, Durand. Drayton Plains, Sept 14. - Brakeman Clarke Hughes of Druand was killed in a rear end collision on the Grand Trunk, one mile east of here, early to day. Seven Freight cars were completely demolished. Because of a broke draw bar extra freight 1089, Conductor George Snover and Engineer Brodie, stopper for repairs. A flagman was sent back to protect the train by placing torpedoes on the track. The regular train, No 66, Conductor Claude Haggerty and Engineer Swales, running forty miles an hour, came along and crashed into the extra with terrific force. There was a heavy fog, which made it impossible to see more than a short distance, and the crew of the regular declare they heard no torpedoes, Hughes was in the caboose of the train when it was struck.
