HE FIRST THREATENED TO SHOOT HIS WIFE.She Ran to Home of a Neighbor and Few Moments Later Heard the Shot.Waterford, Jan. 11—William J. Green, a blacksmith of this village, committed suicide this morning by shooting himself with a 22 calibre revolver. Death was instantaneous. Despondency was evidently the cause. Last night Green told his friends he would leave Waterford and said good-bye to them. This morning he was very despondent and ugly. Coming the stairs, he threatened to shoot his wife. She was frightened at his manner and ran out of the house and up the stairs to the home of a neighbor, a little later she heard the report of the rifle in the home she had come and hurried back. Green laid dead on the floor of the kitchen with blood running from the bullet wound in his head. He had evidently hed the gun at the side of his head as the bullet came out in under his ear. The deed was committed shortly after 10 o'clock this morning. Green had a wife and six children, the oldest was 20 and the youngest about six. He is said to have been drinking considerable of late and this led to the despondency, which ended with the rifle, He was about 45 years of age. Mrs. Green summoned aid upon the finding of the body and as the cause of death was so evident it was decided that a coroner's inquest would be unnecessary. Green was arrested in Pontiac a short time ago for being drunk. He was sentenced to jail in default of a fine and served part of the sentence. The timely intervention of a friend with the amount of the fine saved him from serving the entire term.
