Fire In Pontiac

Pontiac, Mich - Sept 16, Fir, which originated in either the boiler room or a dry kiln of the O. J. Beaudett & Co., yesterday morning, destroying the larger portion of the works and caused a loss of $60,000. The fire started at 9 a.m. and at 9 p.m. the firemen were still pouring water on the ruins. The flames were discovered simultaneously by three or four persons and they attempted to put it out by the use of the factory hose and water power. The single line of hose had no more been laid, however, when it was burned in two and the interval before the city fire department got to the scene the fire gained considerable headway. The department from the Eastern Michigan Asylum also responded. The Beaudett company employed 270 men and had a capacity of from 80,000 to 90,000 buggy bodied annually, the majority of which were used by local carriage factories. The insurance on the buildings destroyed is about $47,000.
