Body of Thomas Maley Exhumed

The body of Thomas Maley, who was found dead in the Clinton River a few weeks ago, was disinterred from the Catholic cemetery at Milford on Wednesday morning of last week, and a post mortem examination was held by Dr. R. R. Lansing od Detroit. The examination took place at the instance of the relatives of the deceased, who were not entirely satisfied with the finding of the coroner's jury, which rendered a verdict of death by accidental drowning. Two of Maley's brother-in-laws, Messrs Ferguson of Mt. Morris and Wolven of Pontiac, were present at the autopsy, which showed that Maley's death was due to suffocation. This would prove that he was alive when he reached the water. His skull was not fractured but there were several severe bruises about the head, one or two which were probably sufficient to have rendered him insensible. As to whether there was foul play in the case or not. The autopsy did not furnish conclusive evidence. The injuries to the head may have been caused by the hand of another or received in falling down the river bank. The case has attracted considerable attention, and a variety of stories are in circulation among his acquaintances regarding his actions and statements shortly previous to his death.
