Snake Story

George McCullough tells the Times the following snake story: While he was plowing a few days ago on the Judson Phillips farm his attention was attracted to something near some brush piles at the side of the field. Upon investigating, he found a blue racer, which he succeeded in killing. In the racer's mouth was a partially swallowed "streaked" snake and in the act of disappearing down the latter's throat was a toad. It was not noticed that the toad had anything in his mouth, but his stomach was doubtless filled with insects of various kinds. The incident furnishes a striking illustration of the manner in which the different forms of animal life pray upon each other. The blue racer, by the way, was between five and six feet long.
