Boy Was Naughty - Alcine Richard Welch

By leaving suddenly, causing his people to believe that he had either been lst, strayed, or stolen - restored at last. Little Alcine Richars, whose parents live at 426 West Huron street caused abot the biggest scare during the week that Pontiac people have had in many a day. Some of the townspeople began to believe that he had been kidnapped, while others knew he was drowned. Still there were some who believed he had taken his own life, notwithstanding his youth and freedom from cares that usually lead to such rash acts. Monday was the last seen of the young Alcine until Thursday morning. He disappeared as completely as though swallowed up by the earth on this day and the troubles and worries of his parents were many and varied. He is about 12 years old but has the responsibility of carrying papers and is thus thrown out upon the world and seems to have gained considerable experience with his ways. After delivering his papers MOnday night he was missed for the first time by his parents. The next morning he was still absent. Search was instituted but no boy could be found. He had told some friends that he intended to go swimming Monday night and this added to his parents horror. They search and searched, followed the river bank carefully to find his clothes, reported the case to officers and had entire neighborhood in sympathy with their loss. Three days elapsed and still no boy could be found. The parents became desperate. There was but one other theory and that now came into play, Wednesday night they drove sixteen miles to the boys grandfather where they imagined the wayward son might have gone. This was only small hope at first but it proved to be a glad one to Mr. and Mrs. Welch, for on arriving there they found the boy safely under the grandpa's care, having walked all the way over dusty roads and through half the night to make the journey. The boy wasn't licked, but it wasn't because he didn't deserve it.
