Runaway Horse Stopped

Bertie Faint, 14, certainly proved himself a brave lad, Saturday, by stopping a runaway horse that Mrs. Richard Cummingshad driven from Franklin to Birmingham to attend church. At the close of the morning service, when Mrs. Cummings was getting into the buggy to return home, the horse became frightened and ran away. The lady was thrown under the vehicle, but miraculously escaped unhurt, although her clothing was badly torn. The maddened steep dashed out Maple avenue west, colliding with a buggy coming from the opposite direction, and throwing the occupant to the ground, and nearly demolishing one of the wheels of his vehicle. Just then Bertie Faint came along on his wheel in hot pursuit of the horse. Faster and Faster he flew and finally succeeded in passing the equine, and bounding from his wheel he sprang into the road and grabbed the animal by the bits. They had reached the Watkins farm, and the plucky little fellow hung to the bits although he was dragged for some distance, until help came to relieve him.
