Dunlap. Louis Lee

Auto Pioneer, 84, dies at home. L. L. Dunlap with early carriage firm; joined Oakland in 1907. Louis Lee Dunlap, of 51 Delaware drive, retired manufacturer, died at his home Saturday evening, after a long illness. He was born Feb 10, 1870 in Pontiac. The son of Elizabeth Davies and Lewis Letts Dunlap, Mr Dunlap attended Pontiac High School. After leaving school, he went to work in 1889 as a bookkeeper for the R. D. Scott Carriage Co., and later joined C. V. Taylor Wagon Works. He continued to be associated with Pontiac industry well into the automobile age. With Edward M. Murphy, S. E. Beach and Francis Emmendorph, Mr. Dunlap incorporated the Pontiac Buggy Company in 1893 and the Crescent Carriage Co. and Dunlap Vehicle Co. in 1898. In 1907 when Mr. Murphy and associates organized the Oakland MOtor Car Co., Mr. Dunlap became first factory manager, and upon Mr. Murphy's death in 1909, he became general manager, remaining with the company until 1912. In 1913 he retired from active business and , in association with the late J. S. Stockwell Jr. he dealt in real estate developments in investments. For many years Mr. Dunlap was active in Masonic circles and was a 32nd degree Mason. During his business career, he was also interested in Chamber of Commerce projects and held several offices in the Chamber. He was a member of the First Congregational Church. Mr. Dunlap married the late Edith L. Shug in1898. Their two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Tucker and Mrs. Marjorie Thomas, are both deceased. On May 28, 1924, he married Hazel L. Hilton in Pontiac. In addition to his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Lee, at home, a grandson, Richard L. Thomas Jr., of Pontiac, ana a nephew, E. Ray Dunlap of Orlando, Fla. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Tiffany officiating, Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Bearers will be George Zimerman, John Waddell, Dr. S. J. Dalley, Dr. J. K. Schachern, Jack Brannack, and S. J. Cloonan Jr.
