Mrs. Hannah M. Burt passed away at an early hour this morning, at her home, 122 Edison street, at the age of 90 years. Mrs. Burt suffered a stroke of paralysis nine days ago, which was the cause of her death, together with old age.
Mrs. Burt was a really remarkable woman for one of her years. She was the head of a five-generation family. Up to within a few years Mrs. Burt has retained all of her faculties. At the age of 81 she was able to read and sew without glasses and in one year pieced 12 quilts. She delighted in reading the newspapers and had read the bible through from cover to cover, seven times.
Mrs. Hannah M. Burt was born in Scipio, Cayuga county, New York. Her mother was a sister of the mother of the great republican statesman, Hon. Roscoe Conkling. Mrs. Burt and her husband removed to Detroit in 1856, where Mr. Burt died 24 years ago.
Mrs. Burt was the mother of nine children, five of whom survive. They are Madison and Harrison Burt and Mrs. Chloe Batchelor, of this city; Mrs. Mary Bray, of Birmingham; and Howard A. Burt, Detroit.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the home, Rev. R. M. Traver officiating. Burial will be made at Oak Hill cemetery.
