C. C. Waldo, one of the best known pioneers of Oakland County, died at his home in Holly, at noon, Friday, Jan 10, from Bright's disease. Charles C. Waldo was born in Vermont in 1809. When a mere child he moved with his parents to New York, where he married in 1833 and moved to Oakland County in 1836, settling in Orion Township. Here he resided till 184, when he moved to Pontiac, engaging in the mercantile business for six years. Ever since he moved to Orion his home has been somewhere in Oakland County, except for a couple of years' residence in Ohio in the early 50's. Mr Waldo moved to Holly in 1864 and ever since then no man has been more intimately identified with the interest of the town. He was a democrat of the old school, casting his first vote for Andrew Jackson, and has always voted the same way, never missing an election. He served one term as county treasurer, and in 1868 was elected Justice of the Peace, and at the time of his death was serving his eighth consecutive term in this capacity, having held the office upwards of 30 years. In 1865, his wife died, and a year later he married Mary Axford, who survives him. He had no enemies, and was a favorite with all who knew him. He united with the Presbyterian church 68 years ago, and has been a devoted Christian ever since. The Funeral was held from the home SAturday morning, and the remains were brought to this city and interred in Oak Hill Cemetery.
