Wendell, Sarah J.

Death of Mrs Sarah J. Wendell occurred Tuesday morning. Mrs Sarah J. Wendell, widow of John H. Wendell and a resident of this vicinity for 62 years, passed away at her home on South Broad street, Holly, Tuesday morning at 7:30 after an illness of a few weeks. Mrs. Wendell's maiden name was Sharpnack and she was born in Ritchie county Virginia, now West Virginia, May 2, 1844, one of a family of several children and the last to go. She was united in marriage to John H. Wendell, of Rose township, April 3, 1866. They were married in West virginia, becoming acquainted while Mr. Wendell was down there sinking wells. Soon after their marriage they came to Michigan and for 32 years lived on a farm in Rose township. Thirty years ago they moved to the village of Holly, where Mr. Wendell died Dec 27, 1917. The widow continued to reside in her home until her death. This summer, when her health failed, her son Arthur, of Oxford, came to help take care of her. Surviving are her two sons, the one above named and Matthew H., of Rose township. She also leaves four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs Wendell was a woman of fine instincts, friendly and charitable and devoted to her family and home. She was an earnest Christian and a lifelong member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 from the home. Rev F. A. Burnett will officiate and burial will be in the Rose Center cemetery.
