Notes
In 1893 he and his father had gotten into an argument, over the fact that Gay went hunting, and his father told him to stay home to help with some work. After the son returned, the father eating his dinner, argued with Gay about him leaving, The son picked up a knife and threatened his father, in return the father picked up his knife, the son then went and got a rifle and shot his father three times, mortally wounding him. before his father died, he wrote out his last will and testament and it is said he signed it in his own blood. The mother, Lovisa, was on a train returning home from visiting her daughter, when she returned to Novi, she received the news about her husband. Gay was 19 years old at the time of the murder. He was sentenced and went to Ionia prison. He escaped a few years later and went to the Klondike. He kept in touch with some of the local people, by letter, and in 1899 the letters stopped, it was presumed that he had died, but nothing is known of him after 1899.
