Notes
James may have been born in New Jersey, he later settled in Seneca County, New York, before coming to Michigan for the first time. He was one of the first land owners of Oakland County, purchasing land in section 28 of Avon Township, on Jul 5, 1823, he sold that land about 9 months later. James returned to Seneca County, NY for a short period of time. When his son-in-law Chester Adams came to Michigan, James soon followed afterwards, taking up land in Lyon Township.
