Notes
Obit: Welcome Campbell was found dying on a couch at his home in Royal Oak on Sunday, Nov 11, by his wife, and soon expired. His sudden demise was caused by serious prostration, brought on by several weeks hard work raising funds and superintending the building of a barn for the Methodist parsonage. Mr Campbell was born in the township of Paris, Oneida county, New York, 78 years ago. He came to Michigan in 1822, founded the village of Oakwood, this county, and 29 years ago removed to Royal Oak, where he bought 800 acres of land. He was well known in Michigan, having been connected with different Detroit business houses, and also with extensive lumber operations. He leaves a large farm to each of his five sons and two daughters. His sons acted as his pall-bearers at his funeral, which was held the 13th inst. and largely attended.
