Obit: John A. Morley, a Justice of the Peace in Independence township for about 18 years, died last Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Dearborn.  He had been ill for a month but up to the time of his death had entertained hopes of recovery and returning home shortly. His passing on Thursday came as a shock.  John was born Aug 6, 1885 at Bay City, the son of Ira W. and Julia M. Morley. He had lived in Clarkston, 59 years. In addition to his dties as Justice of the Peace, he had engaged in real estate business. He served in WWI. He married Lillian Marvin Newbanks, Nov 21, 1925,. Surviving besides his widow, are one stepson, Howard Newbanks, of Pontiac, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  His duties as Justice of the Peace made him well known over the northern part of the country. Early in his life he had served as a stenographer in a law office and was much better fitted to serve the office then most.  Speeders could look for a real lesson if hailed before him.  It will be hard, if not impossible to find an officer who can fill the office as well as John A. Morley did.  Funeral services, attended by many of his friends, were held at the Sharpe Funeral Home Sunday, with interment i Lakeview Cemetery, The Reverend George Halk of the Clarkston Baptist Church officiated.--Printed in the Clarkston News, Oct 6, 1949.
