He was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, enlisting in 1775 at Kingston, Pennsylvania, as a Private under Capt Ransom, in the Company of Col Butler.  He was in the Battle of Bunker Hill and while home on furlough, he volunteered and was in the battle of Wyoming with Capt Spaulding.  He continued his service  until his discharge in 1782 or 1783.  His discharge was signed by General Washington. In 1794, while a resident of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, his home burned and his discharge papers were distoryed in the fire. At the age of 72 yers, he was allowed a pension, at that time he was residing at Pontiac, oakland County, Michigan. He and his wife had the following children: William, who was born  Mar 10, 1794 and died feb 10, 1845, at the time of his death William was a lighthouse keeper at Thunder Bay., Eleanor, who in 1857 was living in Oakland County, Michigan, Caleb, Barney, Joshua, Kerritt, John, Sarah, The wife of Isaac voorheis, Ellen, the widow of Matthew Stanley.
