He and his family came to Michigan in 1834. He became a prominent farmer in Oakland County, owning at the time of his death a half a section of land. He located in Springfield Township, Oakland County, for five years, removing in 1939 to Oxford Township, Oakland County, where he spent the rest of his life. In his early life he was a strong Whig, and later became an active Republican.  He served as Justice of the Peace and was a man of considerable ability.
