He came to Michigan in 1856, stopping in Detroit for three years, and another two residing in Oakland County. He afterwards moved to Lapeer County, Michigan and engaged in the mercantile business, first with firm of Emmons and Pike and afterwards with Pike Bros. He was engaged in a grist mill for two years, and than became a partner in the firm of Milliken and Co., dealers in dry goods and general merchandise. He owned 330 acres of land in sections 28 and 29 in the township of Mayfield, Lapeer County. He held the office of supervisor for three years and alderman for several years.
