Thomas divorced his first wife, Mary Ann. About 1837 Mary told her husband that she had no affection for him and refused to cohabit with him or work for him in any way. She had continued for nearly 20 years to not live with him or recognize him as her husband. Thomas has a farm of 80 acres in Troy Township, and he can neither rent it to any profit or cultivate it it, having no person to keep house for him, he has virtually been without a home and comforts. There are no children of this marriage, but he has always provided for his wife. Nothing is known of what happened to Mary Ann.
